This is an update and request that we didn’t anticipate needing to send. As many of you know, our dad Larry was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma — initially with a mass on his hip/abdomen which we found out in August has spread to the membrane surrounding his brain. Since that development, his treatment plan accelerated quickly as have his symptoms. In the past 2 months, he has undergone the maximum permitted number (10) rounds of full brain (not targeted) radiation sessions and continues to take oral cancer medication to fight the cancer on his brain, along with steroids and a slew of additional treatments. In addition to the toll that cancer and its treatments have had on him, there have been additional complications with his immune system attacking the brain itself (and not just the cancerous cells). Unfortunately, together all of this severely affects his mobility and cognitive function, including loss of hearing, very poor balance given the location of the cancer on his brain, slow speech, and trouble with eating and drinking. Our mom Donna has been doing everything she possibly can to navigate his treatment plan and to care for him 24/7. We and so many others (thank you!) are helping her as much as we can, but this has required numerous MRIs, PET scans, ER trips, physical therapy, specialized neurologist visits, and now unfortunately will need to have additional help with in-home care to help with his day-to-day movement and care. The costs for all of the medical treatments and now in-home care while we wait for him to be eligible for his long-term insurance are growing quickly. In order to help take one thing off of their plate, we’d sincerely appreciate anything you can do to help out to help with this financial burden. ❤️ We have created this page so that the gofundme, venmo and other needs can all be updated in one place. Please stay tuned for any future needs we may add if you prefer to give in other ways such as providing a meal. We will continue to fight for a cure and get our loving, goofy, selfless dad back. We appreciate your love, prayers and support more than we can express! With much love, Kaitlyn & Lauren
