Help Pets In Need Today!

Story

I live in Pennsylvania and assist with animal rehoming on a personal, non-commercial basis. While I am employed by a shelter, the help I provide outside of work is done independently, on my own time, and is not connected to or endorsed by my employer in any way. Under Pennsylvania law, private individuals are legally allowed to help animals and assist with rehoming as long as certain requirements are followed. I typically assist only one or two dogs at a time, focusing on short-term help, guidance, and placement support rather than operating as a business or organization. I also help small pets and kittens when I can, I help owners pay for vet care and costs too. When helping with dogs, I make sure to follow state requirements, including: • Ensuring dogs have current rabies vaccinations (as required for dogs 3 months and older) • Confirming dogs have or obtain Pennsylvania dog licenses/tags • Providing honest disclosures about the dog’s health, history, and known issues • Using written agreements when appropriate When a dog is transferred with any type of fee, I follow the intent of the Pennsylvania Dog Purchaser Protection Act by providing transparency, health information, and buyer rights disclosures. When dogs are rehomed without a fee, I still provide disclosures as a best practice to protect both the animal and the adopter. My goal is simply to help animals in need, support responsible pet ownership, and assist people in finding safe, appropriate homes for their pets while staying within Pennsylvania law. This type of personal assistance is legal in Pennsylvania, including in Fayette County, and is commonly done by individuals who care about animal welfare while remaining compliant with state regulations.
