Many of you know Elias and Matias Mora Salas from Blessed Sacrament School & Church. They are bright, kind boys who are strong in their faith and bring joy to so many of our children’s days at school. Elias and Matias are deeply loved by their classmates and teachers. Their family moved here from Costa Rica several years ago and do not have extended family nearby, but they have become like family to my children and to so many of us. Right now, their mom, Valentina, is facing serious medical challenges during her pregnancy. She is experiencing severe hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition that causes constant, intense nausea and vomiting, requiring at-home IV hydration and medication pumps. She is also battling severe anemia and other complications that have required blood transfusions and ongoing treatment with strong negative side effects. Because of these health issues, she has been unable to work for an extended period of time. During this pregnancy, doctors have discovered additional medical concerns, but she cannot receive a final diagnosis or begin full treatment until after the baby is born. In the meantime, the medical bills have been overwhelming, and she will require additional recovery time after delivery, and possibly more intense treatment. This is a private, faith-centered family who rarely ask for help. In fact, Valentina has often been the one providing meals and support to others in times of need. Now it’s our turn to surround them. We are asking our church, school and extended community & family to step in and show them they are not alone. Whether it’s meals, gift cards, help with groceries, essential items for the baby or other practical support, every act of kindness matters. Let’s show this family the strength and generosity of our community.
