Supporting the Brazeltons

Story

Our family is asking for help during a difficult season while we wait for critical disability benefits and caregiver support to begin. My daughter, Hannah, is an incredible young woman with autism, ADHD, and significant mental health challenges. Over the past several years, she has been through inpatient hospitalization, residential treatment, Partial Hospitalization (PHP), and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs. Although she has made tremendous progress, she still needs daily supervision, emotional support, structure, and someone she trusts to help her navigate everyday life. I am Hannah's full-time caregiver. My days are spent helping her manage anxiety, attend appointments, maintain routines, and recognize when she is becoming overwhelmed before a crisis develops. Because of her needs, I have had to put my career on hold to be home with her. While I am completing my master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and hope to begin serving others in the future, my priority right now is caring for my daughter. We are currently waiting for two important sources of financial support: Hannah's Social Security Disability decision and my caregiver payments through In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS). Hannah has already been approved for IHSS services, and I have completed the requirements to become her provider, but the payments have not started yet. Until they do, we are struggling to meet everyday needs. Asking for help is not easy. Like many families, we've always tried to make things work on our own. But right now, we are in a gap between providing full-time care and receiving the support that has already been approved. Any assistance—whether it's groceries, household essentials, gift cards, meals, or help covering basic necessities—will allow me to continue caring for Hannah without sacrificing her stability and progress. Every act of kindness helps relieve some of the financial pressure while we wait for the benefits that will help us become more stable. Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Your generosity reminds us that we are not alone, and it gives us hope as we work toward a more secure future.
