Madison Schlag #44 strong

W
Story

For those who may not know, on Friday, March 13th, Madi was rushed to the hospital after not feeling well. We found her unable to respond and barely able to move. Shortly after arriving, doctors determined she had a brain abscess on the left side, which was affecting her ability to communicate and move the right side of her body. There was a moment where we truly didn’t know if she would regain movement on her right side. We were told she needed immediate intervention and would be transferred to either Milwaukee or Madison—we chose Milwaukee. Due to the weather, she wasn’t able to be flown, so Flight for Life came from Milwaukee to transport her (she’s still a little disappointed she didn’t get that helicopter ride). As soon as she arrived, she was taken into surgery where a craniotomy was performed to relieve the pressure. Recovery was expected to take weeks—1–2 weeks in the ICU followed by another 1–2 weeks in the hospital. But in true Madi fashion, she amazed us all. She was out of the ICU in just 4 days and home from the hospital in 7. Thankfully, her feeling and movement returned. Her strength, optimism, and grit throughout this journey have been nothing short of incredible. She shows up to every appointment prepared with questions and takes charge of her care like a true warrior. But the road is not done yet Madi is having another surgery on 6/18/2026, a cranioplasty in the future and possibly more but only the future will tell. but we’ll face it together. A little something about this family! They are resilient!!! Suffering three losses this year! Countless trips to Milwaukee, Children's, MRI, CT, lab appts you name it! Holly has non stop running and needs a little help. She also has a son that has multiple doctor appts that has a medical condition, goes to Mayo, lab appts, etc. I don't know how Holly keeps going and keeps the family a float. Her whole family is a non stop work force. Jack, always on the farm helping out his grandpa and Uncle, and almost never packs a lunch and has no time. Sam, loves to shoot his guns and he could swim all day long if he could. And Madi- just taking one day at a time, just graduated high school, Going to school in the fall for Vet Tech and wants to work with big animals. Most likely bring her back to Grandpas farm. Any little bit helps! whatever you can provide. This family never asks for help so I'm doing it for them!
