Paula’s Pancreatic Cancer Journey - Resting in God

Aptos, CA

Story

This page is a way to share updates and stay connected after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on 12/16/25. The mass—approximately 2 cm as of 12/8/25—was found accidentally during a follow-up escalation from a routine ultrasound. Looking back, I can clearly see the dot-to-dot of God’s presence in every step that led here. I believe God can use anything—miracle or tragedy—to bring about good, whether by bringing us to our knees (aka letting go of the illusion of control) or strengthening our faith as we witness His hand at work... sometimes a convergence of events is so improbable, timely, and life-altering that they change the course of a person’s story. It’s not just that something happened—but when, how, and what it made possible afterward. Many people call that really good luck or huge coincidence. I call it grace. I’m deeply grateful it was found early, appears not to have spread, and is in a location that is operable and that I will likely be able to have a functional pancreas with what can be left behind. I’m not someone extraordinary—just a mom, wife, daughter, niece, auntie, and friend—so thank you for being here, whether to check for updates, be witness to my journey, offer encouragement, or support my family and I in tangible ways. Your support and encouragement is SO APPRECIATED! Most pressing need: PRAYER. I’m scheduled for surgery on 1/12/26 to remove the mass (we've nicknamed “Felicia”). As I say “Bye, Felicia,” please pray for complete removal, clean lymph nodes indicating no spread, effective pain management, and wisdom and precision for my surgeon, Dr. Kimberly Dalal. I truly believe I’m in very good hands—both God’s and hers. More soon.
