Hallie Myers, who is fighting for her life against a rare, debilitating, painful disease called Von Hippel-Lindau Syndrome. Our dearest Hallie has been diagnosed with a rare, inherited disorder called Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome (VHL). It causes tumors and cysts to grow in certain parts of the body. Hallie has been diagnosed with 7 tumors; tumors are present in her breast, liver, spinal cord, pancreas, and kidney. Her doctors told her, she will likely have severe vision loss, balance issues, & severe muscle weakness until her organs just can’t function due to damage. if gone untreated, she can expect to be wheelchair bound within the next 5 years. a life expectancy beyond 10 years is not probable so any chance she has at treatment is her only hope at a longer life. She just had her third surgery in 3 years to remove a large number of small tumors that were located within her sinuses just behind her eyes. Thankfully, the tumors have not yet made contact with her brain. She is scheduled to see an ophthalmologist soon, as either the disease or her most recent surgery has impacted her vision in one eye. Because of the aggressive nature of this particular disease, and with possible rapid growth of the tumors, and the positioning near her brain and eyes, Hallie’s doctors have strongly recommended to start treatment immediately. One of the significant hardships she faces is that this is her only treatment option and the cost for this treatment must be covered upfront to even move forward. While there’s no cure for the disease, our hope is to raise the funds needed to begin treatment immediately. Unfortunately, her portion of the cost of the medication is $13,000 for 60 days of treatment. In her current state, it would be too high a risk to operate unless significant shrinkage happens. The urgency and severity of this has not allowed any time to be wasted! Hallie is pursuing IV therapy along with this very expensive treatment which is similar to chemotherapy, as these are her only options for life expectancy beyond 5 years.
