Support for the Morris Family

Kinston, NC

Story

Fourteen-year-old Trey Morris was recently diagnosed with Stage IV bone cancer, which has drastically affected his mobility. He receives intensive chemotherapy in the hospital, which is then followed the next week with labs and the cycle just continues. Each chemotherapy treatment is done via a hospital admittance. As one of four children in the family, Trey's treatment schedule creates significant challenges for the Morris family in managing daily needs like meals. The family would appreciate meal support both during his hospital stays and home recovery periods. Some of Trey's favorite foods are: Mexican food, BoJangles, Chic Fil A, Arby's, and McDonalds. His treatment facility (ECU Health Greenville) is about an hour from his home and during his hospital stays, he has asked his mom for food from places like Ninja Express, Texas Roadhouse, BoJangles and Mexican food. Some of his favorite home cooked meals are cube steak, beef stew and chicken alfredo. While Trey is undergoing chemotherapy, his immune system is extremely compromised. Please make sure you reach out to Samantha to arrange any potential visits and make sure you are free from any cold symptoms, and that you have not been around anyone else that is sick. The family also has this Amazon wishlist as well: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3R2FTXBBCSXH5?ref_=wl_share

Special Notes

**Food Safety Reminders for Trey:** 1. **Raw vegetables** - please rinse/wash before eating 2. **Fruit** - if you can peel it you can eat it OR rinse/wash outside skins 3. **Avoid fountain drinks and yogurt dispensing machines** (due to tubing not being regularly cleaned, and containing fungus) 4. **If dining at a restaurant** please bring a bottled drink 5. **If dining out** explain to waiter/waitress/cashier that Trey has cancer and needs to eat his food within 30min after being prepared; therefore please request the FRESHEST fries and not having the food waiting under the heat lamp 6. **At restaurants avoid** lemon slices, salad, lettuce and tomato on sandwiches or burgers 7. **Avoid ALL buffet style restaurants** due to risk of infection and food sitting out too long 8. **If food is cooked in the home** must be eaten within 30 min 9. **Leftovers must be refrigerated** as quickly as possible - can be reheated x1 and should be consumed within 2 days after being cooked 10. **Consider his immune system** to that of a brand new baby. Ask yourself if you would take a brand-new baby into an environment (busy store, church, graduation). If answer is no, then Trey should not go.
