A little love for Jess

Roanoke, VA

Story

They say it takes a village and that’s what we are going to need for a few weeks to get us through after Jessica’s surgery. I’m not normally one to ask for help, but, here I am 🫣 My beautiful wife, my best friend and love of my life found out about 15 years ago after genetic testing, that she’s at high risk and a carrier for the BRCA1 gene to develop breast/ovarian cancer. In August, she underwent a partial hysterectomy and now in a few weeks will be going through surgery again, for a double mastectomy. Both surgeries take her from an astounding 70% chance of getting one of those cancers down to a 2% chance, so it’s a no brainer in our eyes. She will be unable to drive for 4 weeks and unable to lift her arms, If you know Jess, she’s going to have a hard time sitting still and “just resting.” Megan started a new job which allows to her work at home a few days, but, will also be covering the whole west part of Virginia with her territory and because the position is new and she’s almost off orientation, there’s a lot of gray area at the moment. Emma’s travel volleyball season is just getting started, there will be a need to help us juggle getting her to practices. It feels like life just doesn’t slow down, it’s one thing after another, but even in the calm and chaos, we are thankful for the people near and far that love us and support us in every new chapter.

Special Notes
