Help us support Jennifer Rohen-Elder as she recovers from open heart surgery! On August 14th Jennifer required urgent surgery due to a blockage in a major blood vessel of her heart. After an initial attempt at a minimally invasive bypass, the surgeon ultimately had to go back and perform full open heart surgery. She is doing very well and even got up and walked the day she woke up! Recovery, however, will take up to 8 weeks and will require many restrictions. We would love to help ease the burden over these next weeks. Some ways to help include: -Sign up on the calendar to drop off a meal (**please see restrictions below**) -Send a gift card for a restaurant or Doordash - Donate a virtual Visa card to help cover food costs, recovery supplies, and bills - Sign up to help Jennifer with small chores around the house or drive to follow up appointments - Donate items through Jennifer's Amazon wishlist
One of Jennifer's restrictions going forward is to adhere to a strict cardiac friendly diet. This includes limiting added sodium and saturated and trans fats. Whole foods, high fiber, lean proteins, and healthy unsaturated fats are encouraged. Below are a links to information on the DASH diet and the Mediterrian diet, both of which are VERY heart friendly!
