As you all know, Jimmy was hit with a bombshell medical diagnosis this past June. Luckily it was caught early and all signs are pointing in the right direction. So...while he is fighting through this and until he gets on the other side of it all, I thought it would be nice to create a place where we can surround him with a little extra love and support. I know I wish I lived closer and could bring him a meal, and I’m sure many of you feel the same way. As amazing in the kitchen as Jimmy and Alyssa both are, there will undoubtedly be days and nights when having a meal delivered or ordering in will be a much-appreciated break. This page will be a way for all of us to lend a helping hand from wherever we are with a "food train". For those who prefer to help in another way—such as sending a message of encouragement or making another contribution that eases their burden during this time—this is simply an opportunity for anyone who wishes to help in whatever way feels right to them. There is absolutely no expectation. We’ll also use this page to share updates along the way, so those wondering how he is doing can stay connected and know how things are progressing without having to reach out individually. Diagnosis & Treatment Info: In mid-June, extreme fatigue and jaundice led Jim to urgent care and then the emergency room, where an ultrasound revealed a mass on his pancreas. After additional scans, blood tests, and ultimately a biopsy, stage II-III pancreatic cancer was confirmed. A difficult stent placement to relieve the jaundice unfortunately caused acute pancreatitis, resulting in an 11-day hospital stay and delaying the start of his treatment. He has now begun chemotherapy with 12 sessions planned. Thankfully, there was no evidence that the cancer had spread to other organs at the time of diagnosis. However, the tumor involves a nearby artery, which is why it is considered stage II-III (borderline re-sectable). The goal of his treatment is to shrink the cancer or move it away from the artery so that it can be removed more easily through surgery. If successful, the planned surgery is a Whipple procedure, a complex operation to remove the tumor and affected portions of the digestive system. Depending on the timing of surgery and his recovery, additional chemotherapy and other treatments may be needed afterward. His doctors have advised that he will be unable to work during treatment and recovery. It will be a long road, but we are grateful to have so much love and support from family and friends along the way.
