Rebel with a Cause

New Albany, IN

Story

Come fight with Bryce in his rebellion against osteosarcoma. During the spring, Bryce noticed discomfort around his left knee when running, jumping, rough housing, etc. The area directly below his knee began to swell slightly, so we visited an immediate care center for an x-ray. The immediate results showed a fracture across the left fibula, with the radiologist later reading the results as a fracture across a “dangerous lesion”. We then checked in to the children’s hospital, staying a day for additional x-rays and an MRI which confirmed the lesion as cancerous. Later that week, Bryce had a sedated biopsy of the tumor, and eventually a CT and PET scan to determine if the cancer had metastasized. It has not. As osteosarcoma has a reputation of being aggressive, we were urged to act quickly, beginning treatment immediately. Those recommendations were received with caution as we and our inner circle immersed ourselves into studying cancer, osteosarcoma, conventional/standard treatments, studies/trials, alternative/holistic therapies, nutrition, horror stories, life testimonies, here in the states, abroad, and on and on and on. Despite wanting to align with our crunchy lifestyle, we found no accounts of health or survival without chemo. None. So after two weeks of mental, emotional, spiritual wrestling (for all of us), Bryce decided to begin treatment with Dr. Ferguson at the Norton Children’s Cancer Institute. The road ahead of Bryce does not look easy, but: 1. He is quite the badass. A fireball of a justice seeker and health fanatic. 2. He is surrounded by an amazing army of friends and family. The kind of support group who isn’t afraid to tear the roof off and lower him down to his help. 3. Most significant of all, he serves a God who promised to never leave nor forsake him, who is mighty to save. Our specific prayer requests/faith images right now are: 1. The cancer stays localized, does not spread. 2. Bryce’s body receives what it needs from the chemo and rejects what it doesn’t need. 3. He stays healthy through the treatment, defying the often expected “withering away”. His visual – actually bulking up this next year (why not?). 4. He find a greater purpose - HIS purpose through this. That he turns this around to encourage others in a walk of faith and healthy living.
