Help Jocelyn Get the Specialized Medical Care She Deserves 💜 Imagine being just 15 years old and spending nearly five years battling symptoms that affect almost every part of your daily life. This is life for my daughter, Jocelyn, who has been living with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). As her parent, one of the hardest things has been watching my daughter struggle day after day while doing everything I can to find the specialized care she needs to feel better. Jocelyn experiences nausea, headaches, and fainting spells daily. During FND flare-ups, she can also suffer from significant pain, non-epileptic seizures, tics, and painful muscle spasms in her neck and legs. These conditions have taken a tremendous toll on her quality of life. At an age when she should be able to focus on growing up, making memories, and enjoying being a teenager, so much of her life revolves around managing her symptoms and finding ways to get relief. I am are asking for help because Jocelyn deserves access to the care she needs, and we can no longer manage all of these expenses on our own. A Long Road to Finding the Right Care Over the years, we have seen multiple neurologists and explored different treatment options, determined to find the help Jocelyn needs. Unfortunately, getting appropriate care has been an uphill battle. Our insurance denied treatment at RUSH University, and many of the providers we have been referred to do not specialize in FND or POTS. Jocelyn has received care through the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab Pain Clinic, which was helpful, but she needs continued services to help manage her symptoms. She also attends therapy every week to help manage her FND and sees a chiropractor, which we pay for entirely out of pocket because we were unable to obtain a referral. Much of her medical care has required traveling downtown, and last year alone, Jocelyn had to visit the emergency room approximately nine times. Each visit has been another reminder of how much these conditions affect her life and how desperately we want to find more consistent, specialized care for her. We finally have an appointment scheduled with a specialist in St. Charles who has experience treating FND and POTS. This is an important step forward for Jocelyn, but there is another obstacle: the practice does not accept our HMO insurance plan. The initial appointment is expected to cost approximately $800, with follow-up visits costing around $175 each. These costs are in addition to her ongoing therapy, chiropractic care, pain-management services, and other medical expenses. We do not want the cost of treatment to stand between Jocelyn and the opportunity to receive the specialized care she needs. How Your Donation Will Help Jocelyn Every donation, no matter the amount, will help us continue pursuing care for Jocelyn. Funds raised will go directly toward: Specialist appointments to help us access experienced care for FND and POTS. Ongoing therapy to support Jocelyn in managing her FND. Chiropractic care that we currently pay for out of pocket. Continued pain-management services to help address her symptoms. Additional medical expenses related to managing her conditions. Even a small contribution can help ease the financial burden of these recurring expenses. If you are unable to donate, sharing Jocelyn's fundraiser with friends, family, or your community would mean so much to us. Help Us Keep Moving Forward 💜 As a parent, you want nothing more than to see your child feel better and have the opportunity to enjoy life. It is heartbreaking to watch Jocelyn face these challenges for so many years, especially when finding the right care has been so difficult. We are doing everything we can to help her, and we are holding on to hope that connecting with a specialist who understands these conditions will be another step forward. Your generosity would mean more to our family than words can express. Every donation, every share, and every kind message helps us continue this journey and reminds us that we are not alone. Please consider donating to help Jocelyn access the specialized medical care she needs. If you cannot donate, sharing her story is another meaningful way to help. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for taking the time to read Jocelyn's story, for caring about her journey, and for helping us fight for a better quality of life for my daughter. With gratitude, Jocelyn's family 💜
