The Hayes Family Support Page

Story

On Friday, July 25, 2025, Kristi, Ben & Max Hayes were in a tragic head-on car accident near Kirksville, Missouri while on their way to pick up their son Eli from summer camp. Ben Hayes, an amazing husband and father, passed away at the scene. Their 16-year-old son, Max—an incredible young man, lifeguard and student at Timberland High School—was airlifted to University Hospital in Columbia but sadly passed away later in the hospital. Max's legacy lives on in the most powerful way imaginable--and here are some of the lives he impacted: ✨ One of his kidneys was a direct match for a 3-year-old boy. ✨ His other kidney matched with a 2-year-old boy. ✨ His liver went to a 50-year-old man. ✨ His pancreas matched with a 27-year-old man. ✨ His lungs went to a 60-year-old man. ✨ And his heart matched with a 10-year-old boy. Kristi survived the crash but is recovering from two surgeries and more still to come. As she begins to heal—both physically and emotionally. Kristi is now navigating this unimaginable loss while returning home to care for her two surviving children: Eli (13) and Evie (7). Many people have asked how they can help. As Kristi continues to undergo surgeries & recovery-- while preparing to rebuild her life, gift cards for meals, groceries, and household needs will go a long way in supporting her and the kids. This page has been created as a simple, thoughtful way to support them in the weeks ahead. From the bottom of our hearts—thank you for your kindness, prayers, and support for the Hayes family. With love, Karman Cochrane
