The Roots That Hold Us

W
Story

For my wife Sara and me, our home was our sanctuary. It was where we raised our three beautiful daughters. It was where Sara spent her evenings grading papers and preparing lessons for her students, and where I came home after a long, hard day of running my stump grinding business. It was filled with our girls' favorite toys, our family photos, and the life we spent years building together. In a single, terrifying night, all of that vanished. A devastating house fire swept through our home, taking almost everything we owned with it. We are endlessly, profoundly grateful that we all made it out safely. Standing outside watching our home burn, holding my wife and daughters close, I knew the most important thing survived. But looking at the ashes the next morning, the reality set in: we are starting over from absolute zero. We lost our clothes, our furniture, and our everyday essentials. The girls lost their beloved toys, books, and sense of security. Sara lost all of her classroom and teaching supplies just as she needs to prepare for the upcoming school year. And I lost the tools and equipment essential to run my business and provide for my family. Starting over from nothing is a mountain we cannot climb alone. My job has always been about clearing away the wreckage and stumps left behind by storms so that people can rebuild. Now, my own family is facing the aftermath of a terrible storm. Sara has spent her life pouring love into her students, and right now, we are having to learn how to ask for that love to be poured back into us. We cannot replace the sentimental things we lost, but with your help, we can start building a new foundation. Whether it’s a hot meal through our Meal Train, clothing and household essentials through Give InKind, tools to help me get back to work, or a toy to bring a smile back to our daughters' faces—every single act of kindness means the world to us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing by us, helping us carry this weight, and helping us rebuild our lives. With love and gratitude, Jaden, Sara, and the Girls
