TLDR….. My South African family and friends, I’m reaching out today to ask if we could come together to support one of our own during an incredibly difficult time. A young South African couple who moved to the U.S. less than a year ago recently received the wonderful news that they were expecting their first baby. Sadly, not long afterward, they learned that the pregnancy was not viable. During the procedure to treat the miscarriage, doctors also discovered a cyst on her ovary that could have become life-threatening had it not been found when it was. In the midst of heartbreaking loss, they are grateful that this hidden health issue was discovered in time. As you can imagine, this has been an emotional and physically painful experience. Her husband has had to return to work almost immediately, as taking additional time off simply isn’t an option for them right now. She is on bed rest and trying to recover, both physically and emotionally. If anyone feels moved to help, the greatest gift right now would be a home-cooked halaal meal, a gift card to a meal delivery service, or even arranging a meal to be delivered. Taking one small task off their shoulders would give her the chance to rest and heal without worrying about cooking. If your preferred way of helping is by contributing toward meals or groceries, that would also be received with sincere gratitude, but please don’t feel any obligation. Your kindness, prayers, and encouragement mean just as much. The beautiful news is that her doctors have reassured them that she will still be able to have children in the future—something they have been praying for for a very long time. They are holding onto that hope as they walk through this difficult season. If you would like to help in any way, please send me a message, and I’ll connect you with them. Thank you for always showing the generosity, compassion, and love that makes our South African community so special. Please keep this sweet couple in your thoughts and prayers. With love and gratitude, Faye
