Well, This Is an Unexpected Variable

W
Story

A couple of months ago, Katie was diagnosed with breast cancer. While the tumor is very small and was caught early, further testing showed that it is more aggressive than initially expected. Thankfully, it was found at an early stage, and Katie has an excellent medical team guiding her through the next steps. She’ll begin a three-month course of chemotherapy, and we’ll use this page to keep everyone updated along the way. This page is an easy way to keep everyone updated in one place. It will help save Katie and Kevin from having to repeat the same information over and over. Please continue to reach out with a text whenever you’d like to let them know you’re thinking of them or to send a little encouragement—they’d love to hear from you. As needs arise, we’ll also share ways friends and family can help lighten the load. To know Katie is to know someone who approaches life with curiosity, practicality, and genuine care for others. As an engineer, she’s fascinated by thoughtful design and enjoys researching everything from products to systems that make everyday life work better. She has an eye for quality and function, and it’s no surprise that many of us have purchased something, visited somewhere, or tried something simply because Katie recommended it. Thoughtful and practical, Katie has a natural ability to find the best solution. She enjoys understanding how things work, researching every angle, and approaching challenges with curiosity and care. Whether she’s designing, gardening, cooking, or helping someone choose the perfect product, she puts that same thoughtfulness into everything she does. She loves nature, gardening, cooking, bicycling, getting lost in a good book, and filling the pages of her favorite Japanese-style journals. Kevin is incredibly dedicated to his family. He doesn’t hesitate to do what needs to be done and will be there every step of the way for Katie and Wyatt. Practical acts of kindness—whether it’s a grocery or meal gift card, running an errand, helping with a project around the house, giving Wyatt a fun outing, or lending a hand with everyday tasks—can lighten the everyday load and be a meaningful way to support them both. Most of all, thank you for caring about Katie and her family. Your encouragement, kindness, and practical support are deeply appreciated. Thank you for walking alongside them in the days ahead.

Special Notes

Katie and Kevin love cooking with fresh, seasonal ingredients. If you’re at a farmers market, fresh produce is always a thoughtful and appreciated gift. They do enjoy meat, vegetarian, gluten, and cheese.
