Story
Support for Tia's Third Cancer Battle Our beloved Tia is facing cancer for the third time. She has stage two mouth cancer (Squamous Cell Carcinoma). This news has touched us all deeply, and we're reaching out to rally around her and her family during this challenging period. Tia's journey as a two-time cancer survivor (Osteosarcoma at 16 yrs old and Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma just two years ago) has already been a testament to her extraordinary courage, resilience, and unwavering spirit. Her ability to overcome such adversity twice before has been nothing short of inspirational. While we know Tia possesses incredible inner strength, we also understand that no one should face such a battle alone. Her battle over the coming months will include a complex reconstructive surgery of part of her tongue which includes using a graft from her forearm. She will also have lymph nodes removed from her neck and because she won’t be able to eat or drink post surgery, a GI tube will be placed in her stomach for feeding. Tia will be admitted for a week at Froedert Hospital following the surgery. The recovery will be tough but the surgery has a high success rate. Six to eight weeks later, Tia will undergo 30 rounds of radiation to her mouth and neck. She will need to go to Froedert every weekday for six weeks. The side effects from radiation will be very painful and exhausting. Tia will most likely be extremely fatigued during this time. It’s a lot to go through, but the combination of surgery and radiation should hopefully ensure that this cancer doesn’t return. Tia will have dozens of doctor appointments and additional speech and physical therapy. As we come together to support Tia and her family, every gesture, no matter how small, can make a significant impact. Whether it's through organizing a play date for Mason and Barrett, practical help, emotional support, a meal, or a dad’s outing for Colin, our combined efforts as members of Team Tia are greatly appreciated.
