DSAL Helping Hands for Isaias & Family

Charleston, SC

Story

Meet Isaias. At just 4 months old, Isaias has already shown incredible strength. Born premature and with Down syndrome, he is currently at Medical University of South Carolina, preparing for heart surgery later this month. Since birth, Isaias has remained in the hospital, continuing to grow stronger each day with the support of his care team and family. Right now, his family is taking things one day at a time. There is no clear timeline for discharge, and one of the ongoing challenges has been helping Isaias gain weight and build strength for what’s ahead - which will include heart surgery at some point. His mom, Ivette, is by his side each day—loving him, advocating for him, and walking through this season with steady strength, while his dad, Isaias, works to support their family and balance time at the hospital. Their journey is not easy, but it is filled with resilience, love, and hope—and they are not walking it alone.

Special Notes

Food Restrictions: There are no allergies or preferences at this time. Visitor Restrictions: Out of respect for Isaias’ care and recovery at Medical University of South Carolina, visits are very limited. He is still very fragile, so we ask that anyone interested in visiting please connect with Ivette first. There may be times when visits aren’t possible, and we appreciate your understanding as his care team and family prioritize what’s best for him each day. If you’d like to check in or show support, texts, phone calls, and messages on Facebook are always appreciated and mean a great deal during this time. Ivette Sotos is best reached via text to 689-252-3053 or on Facebook through messenger. She is also a member of the private FB group - DSAL Families Helping Families.
