Sometimes life gives you the push you didn’t know you needed. For Cyndi, it started with a routine physical in March — the kind of appointment most of us put off. Her doctor reminded her it had been five years since her last mammogram and she was overdue for a colonoscopy. Orders were placed, and Cyndi, with her trademark humor and grit, got everything scheduled. In April, she went in for her mammogram. Because her right breast is dense, a more detailed scan was needed — which she completed in June. That’s when things shifted. The doctor immediately saw something suspicious and ordered two biopsies. Two weeks later, with her best friend (aka her “breastie”) by her side — helping with her backwards gown and lifting her spirits — Cyndi faced the next steps of getting her breast biopsies. Her breastie previously worked with one of the greatest breast surgeons in Colorado Springs made sure she had an appointment on the books with the breast surgeon… just in case. Thank goodness she did. On July 1st, Cyndi received the news: Stage 1 breast cancer. On July 2nd, she met with the breast surgeon. What’s followed has been a whirlwind — emotionally and physically. The questions Cyndi had came fast and hard: "Why me? Am I allowed to be this scared when it’s “only” stage 1? What does treatment look like? Will I be okay? Mixed with moments of levity: Yay, new boobies! At least I caught it early! I’m not going to die from this." But also real concerns: How will I work through treatment? What happens when your income relies on commissions and I have to take time off? And, in a feat of strength many can’t imagine, she quit smoking — cold turkey — after 30 years. As you may or may not know her income Is based on commission and varies each month. The time to take off and medical costs associated with treatment are significant. Your support will help alleviate the financial burden that has added stress to Cyndi and her family during this trying time. Now, as she begins this new chapter, we want to wrap Cyndi in the same love and support she so freely gives to others. Whether it’s through a meal, a kind note, or just showing up — every bit helps. Thank you for being part of her village. Her and her family are deeply blessed and appreciate you all.
