Meals for Michelle

Port Allen, LA

W
Story

On July 17, Michelle went in for a breast MRI that had been scheduled as an additional preventative screening because of her family history. The MRI revealed two spots on her right breast that needed to be biopsied. On July 30, while walking to the Noah Kahan concert, Michelle received the call that she had breast cancer. Michelle and Kevin met with her doctors on August 4 to discuss her treatment plan. She has cancer in two spots on the right side, and it is currently considered Stage 1. Michelle will undergo a bilateral mastectomy along with the first phase of reconstruction on September 22. During surgery, the doctors will also remove and test the sentinel lymph node to make sure the cancer has not spread. At this time, there is no indication that she will need chemotherapy or radiation, but the final treatment plan will be determined after surgery and pathology results. She will have another surgery a few months later to continue the reconstruction process. As Michelle prepares for surgery and recovery, we wanted to create a simple way for the people who love her and her family to help make the weeks ahead a little easier. If you know Michelle, you know she is definitely not someone who loves a lot of attention, so our goal is simply to quietly surround the Vaughn family with love and support while allowing Michelle to focus on healing. One of the easiest ways we can help is by taking dinner off their plate. We have set up meals three days a week during the first month of recovery. Meals should feed Michelle, Kevin, Avery and Kate. As Michelle recovers from surgery, healthier, nourishing options would be especially appreciated. Because Michelle will be recovering from major surgery, there is absolutely no need to stay and visit when dropping off a meal unless it has been arranged ahead of time. A simple drop-off is perfect and will allow her to rest when she needs to. More than anything, please keep Michelle, Kevin, Avery and Kate in your prayers as they navigate the weeks ahead. Your love, prayers, meals and support mean more than you know. Thank you for helping us take care of a family we all love so much. ❤️
