On July 8th Ab was sent to the hospital to be induced because her BP was too high. About 47 hours after that began and 27 hours after they broke her water Ashton arrived via an urgent C-section because his heartrate would not stabilize. Abigail began hemorrhaging and spiked a fever of 104°F. She was septic. Ab was admitted to ICU to find the source of all the bacterium and because her kidneys quit working . Initially Ashton was good, but ended up needing to go the NICU for antibiotics to help him fight any potential infection his white blood cells were signaling. Every day brings more information and more changes. Today, Ab began dialysis in ICU and Ash was given a feeding tube. While neither of these are things people typically want, when they improve the health of their own life or the lives of their loved ones they are welcome relief. Not out of the woods as bacterial infections are still being identified and treatment is still being fine tuned for both of them. We're so fortunate that we're at big Mercy. Everyone I've met who has been involved in Ab & Ash's care has been beyond incredible. We're one day closer to getting to bring them both home. 7/16/26 Quick update on Abby McPeek & Lil Squeaky Abby is in a regular room now and is open to folks calling, texting and visiting. Please contact Ab before visiting because she's still getting a variety of tests and dialysis & the "schedule" for these things is vague at best. Ash is doing well. He's a finicky eater, so there are a few bench marks to be met before he's sprung from NICU. As such, visiting Ash is restricted to momma and daddy and grandparents. 7/23/26 Ashton is getting closer to being released. He no longer has his feeding tube - because he pulled it out himself. 😄 They're not going to put it back in unless it becomes absolutely necessary. Ab has a permanent port and will continue with dialysis 3 times a week. This will go on after she's released, too. It's unknown how long it will take for her kidneys to recover. And, if all that wasn't enough, Abby now has Pulmonary edema and, drum roll......... 🥁......... multifocal pneumonia.
