Meet Nathaniel Birkla — a caring, kind-hearted young man with his whole life ahead of him. Nathaniel is the kind of person who brings light to those around him with his strength, smile, and loving heart. In late November of last year, Nathaniel and his family received heartbreaking news when he was diagnosed with DIPG, a rare and aggressive form of childhood brain cancer. DIPG, short for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, is a tumor that forms in the brainstem, an area that controls important functions such as breathing, movement, and heart rate. Because of where the tumor grows, treatment can be extremely difficult and often involves ongoing medical care, infusions, travel to specialists, and many unexpected expenses. During this difficult journey, we are asking for support to help Nathaniel, his mom, and their family stay as comfortable as possible while focusing on what matters most — time together, care, and hope.
