Story
Doug and Debbie Sherwood were sheltering in place from the cyclone that struck coastal North Carolina on September 16, 2024 when lightening struck their family home. Thankfully, they were able to grab their dogs and evacuate the home before any lives were lost. Due to flooding that closed all the roads around their street, it was difficult for emergency crews to reach them so the house was a total loss within an hour. Neighbors did their best to help using put out the flames by their own garden hoses, but the home was beyond saving. Doug and Debbie do have family that they can stay with, but they have lost everything. Can you help? They would be grateful for donations of meals, gift cards, or money to help them begin to recover. Doug is a retired Pastor and an employee of Duke Progress in Southport and is my husband's coworker. Debbie is a retired teacher from the Roger Bacon Academy Charter Day School. This was the home they raised their daughters in. It was the home they dreamed of having play dates with their new grandchild in. Though we neighbors cannot recover the family treasures like mementos and photos that were lost, our prayers and gifts of kindness can go a long way to bring them comfort in the midst of this trial. We are grateful for any gift that you can give, whether it be a meal, gift card, or your prayers!
