Mac’s Got Some Cancer

Pacifica, CA

Story

Hi friends, You’ve most likely already heard about the cancer if you’re reading this. The most important thing to know is that I will be fine! The cancer is the most treatable and most common breast cancer there is. The oncologist is calling it clinical Stage 3b because it is pretty advanced. There is one large tumor in my leftie and a bunch of smaller ones as well as disease in 4-6 lymph nodes. The right guy is free and clear! Treatment will consist of three months of chemo weekly and then a second round of another chemo for 2 months every other week for a total of 20 cycles. Following chemo, will be surgery. One goal of the chemo, aside from just obliterating the enemy, is to shrink the tumors down so that maybe we can do a lumpectomy. I’m no Angelina Jolie. So, I’m leaning towards the shorter recovery time (lumpectomy) but I am all for just getting rid of it if it means it won’t come back. Following surgery, there will be radiation. Not sure how long that will be, yet. I think it depends on how the chemo and surgery go. I won’t be working much if at all for then next year most likely because I’m not going to risk being in the classroom and catching all the things that Social Workers are exposed to in their work. I MISS THE SOCIAL WORKERS and the work so much! I’ve had two chemo infusions and so far the side effects are pretty mild. Mostly fatigue and “chemo brain”. Chemo brain is Michaela plus perimenopause x 7. No nausea!!! I’ll probably lose my hair but this presents an opportunity! WIGS!!! I’ve decided to create and wig wishlist and will link it to the page. But feel free to riff and send whatever you fancy should you choose to participate in this journey! I will be creating a character for each wig and will be making a book with photos and backstories for each one. Also, people can wear these wigs when they visit! Fun for all!

Special Notes

Mac would love to see friends! Reach out and make a date. She might be boring but wants to hear how you are doing, too. Mac is eating mostly vegan, should you choose to make something. If not vegan, cheese is ok. But no eggs, please! Also, don’t be afraid to text to say hi. The texts are like medicine to her right now. She might not always respond right away to questions but will do her best and she loves to hear from you!!!
