As a former neighbor who now lives states away, but used to be able to run around the block to Steve and Julia, as they would do for us, we heard the clear ask for help from Julia. From Julia: “I am asking this: If Steve has ever talked with you after you lost a job, or had a bike accident, or delivered something to your apartment in his car, advised you on workplace problems, went to your birthday party in a wheelchair or walker, went to your retirement party, your parent’s funeral or your child’s bar mitzvah now is the time to remember his caring and friendship and give him some in return. And by that I do not mean texts or emails. Please really step up and help us through this. He needs phone calls and visits. Help with lunch and getting outside when he is back home. If possible, gift certificates to Lyft. We are over budget on that. A gift certificate to Planet Maids would help me prepare the apartment for his return. He needs a new walker.. We need help and support. His only relatives are in Italy. My only cousin in New York is 85.”
