Mike is in the hospital, in serious condition. He was transferred from Pittsburg, last weekend, to Longview, and then, last night, to Willis Knighten Hospital in Shreveport. They couldn’t find anyone in the Longview-Tyler area who could or would do the surgery, because of the complexity, and/or because of the Christmas holiday. He has a hiatal hernia, which is usually just routine--but his is not. His stomach is strangulated, twisted, and stuck upside-down in his diaphragm. He has had nothing to eat or drink, not even water, and has a pump constantly draining his stomach. They, finally, put a PICC line in yesterday, so that he was able to receive some nourishment; although that put him at greater risk of infection or blood clots. His surgery is scheduled for December 22, (today) We ask for a food donation for my nana and grandpa so she won’t have to worry about cooking since he will be down for a couple of weeks.
