Hello mostly to the NICU nurse/RT family! We have one of our own in need of some TLC, etc. I'll post a bit of the history in a minute - but the most current update is that Phyllis is home from the hospital (with some hiccups). She was hospitalized for just shy of an ENTIRE MONTH following complications to her esophagus requiring 2 follow-up surgeries after the initial one. What has become apparent is that the recovery will be a marathon vs. a sprint - - and she and her family could truly use some hands-on love and support for a bit. Phyllis has a feeding tube in place and won't be able to eat until at LEAST Oct. 6th, but her family needs some real food to keep them all moving forward. Let's keep them fed and I will update when Philly gets the go-ahead and let everyone know what is approved for her starting back up. Please do what you can when you can...and let's all show Phyllis how much she is loved. I know there have been additional out of pocket expenses even while in the hospital for hygiene/care products that the hospital did not provide. I think as nurses and RT’s, we are also very aware that everyday expenses continue even when we are sick. Let's help in any way we are able - even if it's a card, message here, or hugs and smiles in person as she feels up to it in the days to come! :) Thanks, everyone! Xoxo Michelle Here is the original Facebook post from her daughter Stephanie: The initial surgery took place on Aug. 27th. "For those of you who know my mom, you know that she is not one to ask for much, but she will give you everything she has. Well, she’s had a rough few weeks, so I’m asking for her… If you’re the praying kind, please say some prayers for Mama Phyllis. Three weeks ago she had what was supposed to be a routine, outpatient surgery to remove a probable cancerous thyroid nodule. She has been in the hospital since the next day after that due to a hole that formed in her esophagus from removing the cancer. She has had to have 2 more surgeries… with a THIRD planned for tomorrow to patch yet another hole. Ashley has been here the whole time helping, her husband came into town last week to help, and I’ve been able to take some days here and there as well. Please do not feel hurt if you did not know about all of this. I’ve asked many times about posting and mom’s response every time is “No, they all have their own things to worry about.” Please know that we have had tons of support and know that you will help in a heartbeat if needed. Right now, prayers are the most needed thing."
