At only 4 years old, our sweet friend Kate Thomas has been diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive type of cancer that most often develops in the bones or surrounding soft tissue. In Kate’s case, the tumor is located in her leg. Kate is currently undergoing chemotherapy as she begins the fight to crush this awful disease, and we want to surround her and her family with as much love, prayer, and support as possible. Kate’s treatment plan involves 12 weeks of chemotherapy, followed by surgery to remove the tumor in her leg, and then additional rounds of chemotherapy. As you can imagine, the months ahead will be incredibly difficult for Kate and her entire family, and they will need their village surrounding them every step of the way. Along with the emotional toll of treatment comes a significant financial and logistical burden. Medical expenses, hotel stays, gas and travel for treatment, meals away from home, and countless other unexpected costs can quickly add up. Kate’s mom, Lauren, is taking leave from work so she can commit her full attention to Kate’s care throughout treatment. Her dad, Ryan, is also having to take a significant amount of time away from work during treatment, while still doing his best to support and provide for their family. This is where we can step in and help carry some of that weight. There are so many ways to show the Thomas family our love—whether through a monetary donation, dropping off a home-cooked meal, purchasing something from their wishlist, or simply keeping Kate and her entire family in your prayers. No gesture is too small, and every act of kindness allows them to focus a little less on the everyday burdens and a little more on what matters most: Kate’s healing. And let’s not forget Kate’s sweet brother, Charlie. This is a big adjustment for him, too, as he navigates time apart from his parents and sister, and missing the comfort of having his whole family together at home. If you feel led, consider sending a little something his way—a small treat, activity, gift, or note just to remind him how loved and special he is, too. We’ll do our best to keep this page updated with how Kate is doing, along with any ways the family could use support. We’ll also share their preferences along the way—such as when meals should be dropped off without contact, when they may need a break from calls or visitors, or anything else that can help us love on them while also giving them the space they need. Let’s come together to remind the Thomas family just how loved and supported they are throughout this difficult journey. We are incredibly grateful for every prayer, meal, donation, gift, and helping hand. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us support our dear friends and rally around Kate as she fights Ewing Sarcoma. ❤️
We will open meal dates weekly based on how Kate is feeling and what works best for the family. If you would like to provide a home-cooked meal, please sign up for one of the available dates as they are added. At this time, the family is requesting no in-person visits. Kate is immunocompromised during treatment, and exposure to illness or fever could cause delays or interruptions in her treatment plan. For her protection, we ask that all meal deliveries be no-contact drop-offs unless otherwise noted. Thank you so much for respecting these guidelines and helping us keep Kate healthy while continuing to love and support the Thomas family. ❤️
