On June 8, our family’s world changed when my 16-year old nephew was admitted to the hospital with severe ulcerative colitis. What we hoped would be a short hospital stay has turned into a long and challenging journey. After weeks of complications and difficult decisions, he recently underwent a colectomy surgery. While the surgery was necessary, his recovery has been anything but easy. He continues to face many ups and downs and remains in the hospital as he works toward healing. Despite everything he’s been through, he continues to show incredible strength and resilience. During this time, my sister and her family have been by his side every step of the way. My sister is a single parent who had to stop working and go on a leave of absence to care for him and be with him through this difficult time. Between long days at the hospital, missed work, travel, meals, and caring for their family, the emotional and financial strain has been overwhelming. If you are able to help in any way—whether it’s providing a meal, sending a gift card, helping with everyday needs, or simply keeping them in your thoughts and prayers—it would mean so much to our family. Every act of kindness, no matter the size, helps lighten the burden and reminds them they are not facing this journey alone. We are deeply grateful for every prayer, kind message, and gesture of support as he continues his road to recovery.
