Community support for Mayra during hardship

Old Monroe, MO

Story

Hello, my name is Mayra. My son, sister, niece and I moved to Missouri 2 weeks ago. We were living in Illinois and I had a good paying job as a Caregiver and was financially stable up until May of this year when I was in a bad car accident on the job when someone turned in front of me which caused me to hit him and total my car. Not only that but I broke my ankle on both sides which required surgery. I was working as a Caregiver and driving my client to activities was required for my job. Unfortunately, my hours were drastically cut since I did not have a car to drive him anymore. I eventually lost my job. Due to this, I fell behind on my rent. I couldn't afford to pay October or November's rent so our landlord told us to leave in 5 days and she wouldn't give us an eviction. We had no choice but to move to MO so my niece's grandparents could help us until we get back on our feet. I need to get a job because we are struggling financially and can't do so without a car. We are in a small, rural town without access to bus service nearby and can't afford Lyfts or Ubers. We are really struggling financially. My sister is disabled and barely covers the rent with her SSI income. We are stuck at home 24 hours a day without a car and there is nothing walking distance from us as we live in a mobile home park. Not even bus service. We each have teen and they wish to go out and have some fun, but we can't due to lack of funds and no transportation. It's really a hard situation. Right now struggling to put food on the table. My sister receives SNAP but not enough to cover a full month's worth of groceries for 4 people. Thank you!
