We wanted to share a difficult health update on behalf our dear friend Natalie Mize. In March, Natalie found a lump in one of her breasts and immediately made an appointment with her doctor, which led to further testing. Those tests confirmed a diagnosis of breast cancer. She also learned she carries the BRCA2 gene. Imaging has shown it is present in both breasts and also involving the chest wall (meaning it extends beyond the breast tissue into the muscle beneath). She will be receiving care through Texas Oncology and is under the guidance of one of the top oncologists in the state, someone she feels very confident in and trusts deeply. Itās a lot, but she is in excellent hands and has a clear plan forward. The first step of her care plan includes a port install to deliver 12 weeks of chemo, followed by a double mastectomy. Her team will then determine the next steps for further treatment and eventually reconstruction. Because of her genetic profile (BRCA2), her doctors are taking an aggressive and proactive approach to treatment. We know this news feels shocking, Natalie is only 35 and in incredible shape. But the same strength and resilience that make this so surprising are the exact things that will carry her through. This is understandably overwhelming, so weāre helping communicate and rally support around Natalie and her family. As scary as this road is, each step forward is part of her path toward healing. Thank you for loving her and her family so well š¤
This page will continue to serve as the central hub for updates for Natalie and her family. As needs arise, the care calendar and additional support opportunities will be coordinated here. ***At this time, we have removed the contribution option, as the immediate needs we set out to support have been fully funded thanks to this incredibly generous community.*** Please reach out to any of us directly with questions about ways to support the Mize family moving forward. With love, Olivia Claiborn, Lindsay Cola, Maureen Corn, Kaki Irving, Jen Pierce, Lane Pender & Stephanie Muckleroy
