Captain Linda's Portside Watch 2026

W
Story

On June 3rd, Linda suffered a very sudden stroke. We believe she had a spontaneous jump in blood pressure that caused a small blood vessel to burst. The location of the bleed causes motor issues and impairment with swallowing and coughing. She was initially placed on a ventilator. Being the rockstar that she is, she surpassed everyone's expectations. She was taken off the vent on Saturday. One of the first things she said was, "I sound like a drunken sailor." Her mind was 100% intact, but unfortunately her body was not there yet. She was very alert and talkative for a few hours but started having difficulty breathing. On Monday, the decision was made to place her back on the ventilator. She had developed pneumonia from not being able to cough and was started on antibiotics. After discussion with multiple specialists, it was agreed that placing a tracheostomy would be the best course of action. She will be able to speak and breathe on her own while protecting her airway from things "going down the wrong tube." During this past week, Josh has been surrounded by family to help look after him and Linda. Linda's daughter had to return to GA on Monday, and her sister had to return on Tuesday. Josh is manning the ship alone at this point. The ICU room is very small. They only have little wooden chairs to sit in. It is very uncomfortable for long periods of time. Josh has to limit his visits, or he will be too stiff. What we need at this time is healthy volunteers who are willing to come sit with her for a few hours. She is getting great care, but a friendly face is always comforting. Josh will continue to come and go. We are asking for people who can sit quietly by her bedside when she is resting and provide comfort, reassurance, and calm conversation when she is awake. ICU max is 2 visitors at a time. We suggest bringing a cushion to sit on, if needed. The room is very cold, so dress accordingly.

Special Notes

For the safety of Linda and other ICU patients, we need healthy volunteers only.
