Here I’ve inserted Mom’s Facebook post about everything because I believe it’s best said in her own words: I'm not really one to post about what's going on in my life, so this is difficult for me. I had breast cancer 9 1/2 years ago. I had two lumpectopy's in two weeks. I also went through 19 sessions of radiation with a boost. I was told that I had a recurrence back in March. Through testing and talking with surgeons, specialists, family, and friends; I will be having a bilateral mastectomy with immediate DIEP flap reconstruction on Monday. This means that they will be moving most of my abdominal muscles, fat, and viens up under my skin to rebuild breasts. This was a difficult and scary decision to make. It will take at least 9.5 hours and I will be in the hospital for a week, 3 days of which will be in the ICU. I will have Caitlyn post updates on how my surgery went as well as how I'm doing. I doubt I'll feel up to talking. All I'm asking for are prayers for myself and my family as we deal with this difficult part of our lives, as well as easy healing and a return to normal life. Thank you for your prayers! After a 15 hour surgery in which the first flap failed the second flap failed leading to a second surgery on Wednesday to place an expander. Since finishing surgery Mom is doing well now and is at home resting with several restrictions and focusing on pain management. This means she is unable to do anything around the house including cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the animals which is why we are asking for this support. We are very thankful for all of the prayers and support we’ve received already as this will be a long road for her. At this time we’re asking for no visitors until she feels ready for them. I’m also asking that any messages be sent my way to avoid Mom’s phone being overwhelmed. Thank you again, we will post any updates as they come!❤️
