Team Tara- Supporting Tara's Cancer Journey

Nichols, SC

W
Story

Let me begin this story by saying, if you know me, you know that I will suffer in silence before I ever entertain the idea of exposing my struggles, much less asking for help from anyone at all, and my sister, Tara, though we are different in many ways, shares that same quality. However, I believe God allows us to be put into positions outside of our comfort zone, in order to "grow" and refine us as His children. So, in honor of my sister, here goes.... One year after the death of our mother, in July 2025, Tara was diagnosed with stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma breast cancer during what should have been one of the most exciting seasons of her life- her last year of nursing school. Even in the middle of her own health battle, she is still studying, still pushing forward, and still caring for others because that is just who she is. The level of determination, perseverance, strength, and compassion my dear sister has shown during this journey so far, is utterly amazing and I could not be more proud of her. Tara is also a devoted mother to her daughter, who bravely lives with severe epilepsy and requires care, close attention, and frequent medical appointments. Her days were already full before cancer ever entered the picture. So far, Tara has endured chemotherapy, surgery this past December, and is now traveling for radiation treatments five days a week, in addition to attending her nursing classes on campus and off-site clinical rotations and preparing for graduation in May 2026. The treatments are exhausting, and balancing school, family, and recovery is draining overall and has made it nearly impossible to keep up with everything. Between medical expenses, gas, medications, school tuition & expenses, and basic necessities, the overwhelming burden has grown quickly and Tara has not asked for any help or assistance at all nor is she going to do so. Many people have asked how they could help my sister during this season and I was clueless in the beginning but I've learned even the smallest of acts of generosity & love make a big difference. Therefore, this support page has been created as a resource to help ease the burden on Tara as much as possible as well as, uplift her spirits, so she can focus on what truly matters....healing, finishing nursing school, caring for her family, and beating cancer! She needs a village to show her the love and support she has always generously given to others. She is a living testimony and I am so excited & patiently waiting for her to be physically able to share her testimony with everyone! We graciously appreciate all acts of kindness and words of encouragement. If you feel led to give financially, any amount truly helps and it is totally up to you and links have been provided on this page. Most importantly, I ask you to please pray for her and privately share this page with others. At this point, Tara could easily give up and stop fighting for a multitude of understandable reasons but she is hanging on with every fiber of her weakened body and is continuing to be a light unto others. Tara has spent her life encouraging & advocating for others. Now, it's our turn to encourage & shine for her. Let's surround her with love, support, and hope and remind her she is not fighting this battle alone! Fight this journey with Tara- every prayer, web-page share, act of kindness and generosity helps We believe in an omnipotent God, a strong community, and the power of people coming together in love. Thank you for walking this journey with Tara, uplifting & encouraging her, and helping to ease the burden that is so heavily weighing on her & her family right now. God bless you all! With love & gratitude, Kelly Rhodes Harrison
