W
Story

I created this page to stay connected with you as I recover from my transplant/double nephrectomy to treat my polycystic kidney disease. I hope this makes it easy to share updates & organize your help with my aftercare. With your support, I know I will experience a better and more optimal recovery.

Special Notes

UPON ARRIVAL to MY APARTMENT: ** If you have any hint of a cold, flu etc., please reschedule your visit ** - remove your shoes - wash your hands really well with soap & water - put on a mask - write any reminders or changes on the whiteboard MEDICATION - meds are all pre-organized - remind me about the schedule - remind me to weigh myself and record my blood pressure each day - do NOT adjust dosages - let me know if anything seems "off" with me (my meds can cause increased anxiety, dizziness & tremors) PHYSICAL HELP I MAY NEED: - going for a walk outside - lifting anything over 5 lbs - light cleaning (making bed, loading dishwasher) - laundry MEAL PREP / FOOD SAFETY ** Please don't bring in pre-prepared food for me due to food safety concerns. All of my meals need to be cooked on-site. ** - help me cook or reheat a meal - *NO raw vegetables* ; raw fruit is OK but must be thoroughly triple-washed - remind me to drink water (and help me reload the water filters) - label all food with the date it was made; check food more than 2-days old and discard. IMMUNESUPPRESSION 101 Since I will be severely immunosuppressed during the first three months of recovery, I have to be very careful to avoid: - flowers or plants, scented candles, and essential oils (I love them all but please do not bring any into my apartment) - any virus/bacteria transmitted through the air (be prepared to keep a mask on) - less than very clean hands (wash often and with antibacterial soap) - food prepared outside and brought in (but I would love help preparing food onsite :) CONTACT INFO: Transplant Team / Clinic: **HOTLINE** (24 hours) 646-962-2000 NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medicine Transplant Center 525 East 68th Street, Box 98 New York, NY 10065 T 212-746-3155 F 212-746-8541 [email protected] Vincent Martinez, RN - Transplant Coordinator Clay Schudel (718) 344-9306‬ & Ken Lindley (718) 344-9558‬ Dara Hartley (646) 406-2685‬ Chrissie Dowler ‭(917) 679-5854‬ Anita Meeker (mom, in Ohio) 330-801-0971
