Our neighbors, the Feiteira family, lost everything in a fire at their home yesterday while their family was at the kids baseball game. Danny, Maria, Amalie, Jai and Nias are an incredible family. They have been preparing and saving to build their dream home, while also homesteading as they go. They built a small canine last year to live in while making their homesteading dreams come true. They have three dogs, a calf they just got, a whole lot of chickens, and five cats. This is a determined family. Yesterday, they left their cats inside their cabin to go to their boys' baseball game. While there, a buddy of Danny's who was working on some lines in the area noticed smoke coming out of their shed. He texted Danny, and they immediately headed home, about an hour's drive away. Unfortunately, this family lost everything. The dogs were fine, the calf was fine, and the chickens were fine, as they were outside in their structures. The family's dear cats died a horrible death. The family has no clothes except what is on their backs. All their laptops, house furnishings, bedding, kitchen supplies, food, documents, artwork, and art supplies, which the oldest daughter and youngest boy treasure, are gone. Today is the 11-year-old boy, Jai's, birthday. As a community, we would love to help them get back on their feet through a gift card tree. They are currently living in their RV, so space is at a premium. Any gift, small or large will help them with the essentials of getting back on their feet and starting over.
