On May 12th, Robert had multiple vertebrae fused requiring 3 titanium cages and a titanium rod on his spine. He was home recovering well for about 3 weeks when he suddenly woke up in excruciating pain. EMS transported him to the hospital where he stayed for 7 days to be treated for sepsis. Kimberly had surgery on May 26th and was recovering well at home, but probably overdoing it as she was trying to help take care of her husband in the hospital and her son at home. On June 3, she woke up with a hematoma that had grown pretty large overnight. She immediately saw her doctor and the decision was made to treat with compression for 24 hours, then aspirated. Kimberly was taking blood thinners due to the highly vascular area of her surgical sites. Unfortunately, on June 4, the vessel that was leaking and feeding the hematoma ruptured. Kimberly began bleeding out internally. Thankfully, she was already at the hospital with her husband and within 30 minutes of the rupture, she was in route to an OR. Kimberly lost 3 pints of blood during the event. She was given 2 units of blood. Both are now home and recovering with the help of their son, Paxton, and his grandma, Sharon. Robert has 10 different medication times during a 24 hour period, plus additional wound care. Kimberly has 6 different medication times. All of this leaves little time for cooking healthy meals! Sharon will need to leave to return to Lubbock by the weekend of June 13 to make it to her own medical appointments. The family truly appreciates any and all help during this time!
Food allergies: limes Disklikes: onions, peppers, spicy High protein is important as Robert lost 7 pounds in the hospital and Kimberly is rebuilding blood supply. Robert is Type 1 diabetic. We can't really eat spicy food right now due to medications causing gastrointestinal sensitivity.
