Penny and Steve Davison are stepping up to care for extended family members who need significant help right now. Our Pathfinders Connect Group at Green Acres Baptist Church wants to provide support for them and then encourage others who know and love them and their family to do the same. On May 10th, Penny's sister, Nancy Crawford (ED of the Literacy Council for many years), had a sizeable brain tumor removed. This caught everyone by surprise! The surgeon thinks it's probably benign, but it will take about 2 weeks to receive the pathology report. Nancy is facing a long recovery with no driving for THREE months. Penny's elderly mom, Helen Portwood, had been living with Nancy and her husband, Doug, until mid-March when Doug became seriously ill. At that point, Helen moved back into her house with all siblings caring for her together. In early April, their younger brother, Kevin Portwood, took a bad fall at work and had to have major surgery followed by rehab. At that point, Helen moved back in with Nancy and Doug. Nancy continued to help meet the needs of Helen as well as Doug who was in and out of the hospital several times with ongoing severe medical concerns. In early May, Kevin was able to go home, so Helen moved back home with him to give Nancy a much-needed break and more time to help Doug regain his strength after his long-term medical issues. NOW, Nancy is facing a long recovery herself! Penny and Steve will be caring for and supporting Nancy, Doug, Helen and Kevin...along with managing their own daily lives and trying to spend some time with their son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. This is an awful lot to hit one family in such a short period of time...right at two months to be exact! We know others will want to join us in providing meals, gift cards, restaurant deliveries, as well as meeting other needs they might have along the way.
