Story

Kylie's Fan Club supports the Atkins family as they travel down Kylie's road to recovery ❤️‍🩹. We will provide needs and updates as available, so you are informed of her progress, and the families needs if you would like to help. We know God is the "Ultimate Healer", so we ask you to continue to pray for complete healing in our precious Kylie. Missy, Dustin and the family appreciate the outpouring of love, support and prayers everyone has given. Kylie's Story: On Saturday, March 2nd, 2024 (around 3:30pm) Kylie Atkins, our 7-year-old niece, was playing at the trampoline park while at her sister's volleyball tournament in Wichita, KS. She suddenly began not feeling well, showed signs consistent with a stroke and was taken via ambulance to Wesley Children's Hospital. Initial tests showed a blood clot in her brain, and she was immediately admitted into the Pediatric ICU and treated for a stroke. This was something new for doctors at Wesley because 7-year-olds typically do not have strokes. Due to her being such a rare case, she was airlifted to KU Medical Center in Kansas City via helicopter, after she was given a TPA (or Clot Buster medicine). Shortly after she arrived in Kansas City Specialists at KU Med confirmed she suffered a major stroke. Many tests over that weekend showed there are no issues with her heart, and after being closely monitored and stable for 72 hours she was ready to move into the rehabilitation stage. Unfortunately the doctors have not been able to define a cause of the stroke. She still did not have use of her right arm, hand and leg and has some facial drooping, but Kylie was very courageous over the 4 days in KC!!! She made great strides by eating again, doing Physical Therapy, and talking more and more. On Wednesday, March 6th, 2024 Dustin and Missy took her to Bethany Children's Health Center, in the Oklahoma City area, to begin rehab and the recovery process. She has continued making great strides while at Bethany, it is expected that she will be in OKC until early to mid April. This will all be dependent upon her progress.
