Supporting KaMaria’s Battle with Cancer

Washington, DC

W
Story

If you know KaMaria, you already know this about her: she is one of the most genuine, tender-spirited people you will ever meet. I met her years ago at a gym in Europe, on treadmills right next to each other. I struck up a conversation, not knowing what she would even say back, but within minutes it felt like we had known each other for years. And just like that, we’ve been friends ever since. What started in that gym turned into us hitting the streets of Germany together, exploring every corner we could find, laughing our way through cities that neither of us had ever seen before. That is just who KaMaria is. She has this rare gift of making people feel like they belong the moment they meet her. She listens without judgment, celebrates your wins like they’re her own, and has a heart big enough to hold space for everyone she loves. It’s not just her smile that draws people to her, it’s her heart. Our friendship has meant more to me than words can really capture, the kind of bond where distance and time never seem to change a thing. Getting this news about her has been one of the hardest things I’ve had to sit with, and I know I’m not the only one who feels that way. That is exactly why this page exists. There is no easy way to hear that someone you love is sick. It settles into you slowly, in the quiet moments, long after the initial shock wears off. You replay the conversation, you sit with the fear, and then you realize that grief and worry alone will not help her. Action will. So here we are, choosing to turn that heartbreak into something useful, showing up for KaMaria the way she has always shown up for everyone else. Sharing something this personal has never come easy for KaMaria. She has always been someone who carries her hardest moments quietly, more comfortable pouring into others than asking anyone to pour into her. That alone tells you everything about her character. Even in the middle of her own hardest fight, her first instinct was to protect everyone else from the weight of it. Opening up about this diagnosis took real courage, and honestly, some gentle convincing from the people who love her. But how will they know to pray for you if you don’t tell them? That was the conversation. And thankfully, she listened, because now an entire community gets the chance to stand behind her instead of finding out later and wishing they had known sooner. No one should have to fight this battle alone. Treatment, recovery, the day-to-day of simply getting through it, all of it is easier when there is a community standing behind you. That is what this page is for. Every gift, every prayer, every meal delivered, every kind word adds up to something bigger than any of us could give alone, and it’s how KaMaria gets to keep being the incredible mom she is to her two kids, Khloe and Kobra. If the roles were reversed, there is no question KaMaria would be doing this for any one of us, probably before we even had to ask. So let’s return that same love. Let’s rally around her the way she has always rallied around everyone else. Join me in supporting KaMaria through this. Let’s help her get through it and come out on the other side with her spirit intact and her family whole.
