Naim is a bright and joyful 4-year-old who was born with Down Syndrome and has already overcome so much in his young life, including open heart surgery, eye surgery, and foot surgery. He loves spending time with his family, especially with his 1-year-old sister and 8-year-old brother. On June 8th, Naim became very ill with a high fever and rash, which led to his hospitalization and, soon after, a diagnosis of leukemia. Since then, he has bravely completed his first 28 days of chemotherapy. While his family anxiously awaits lab results from a recent spinal tap to see if the treatment is working, Naim has faced additional complications from viruses affecting his eyes and stomach, keeping him in the hospital longer than expected. During this incredibly challenging time, both of Naim’s parents have been unable to work as they take turns staying by his side around the clock, while also caring for his siblings. With mounting bills and basic living expenses, the family is struggling to pay their bills this month (and in the future) while focusing all their energy on caring for their children. The uncertainty and stress of this situation have been overwhelming, but their love and dedication to their children remain unwavering. We at Sonrisas y Luz are reaching out to ask for support from the community specifically for Naim's family.
