On December 23rd, Emma was admitted to the ER and transferred to the PICU that night, where she was diagnosed with Acute Necrotizing Encephalopathy—a rare brain disease with no established standard of care. What followed were 12 days of various treatments, neurosurgery, and three MRIs as doctors raced against the clock to limit the damage. On 1/4/26 came the conversation no parent should ever have to hear. Suffice it to say, the prognosis wasn’t good. Now, 13 days later after receiving that prognosis and 25 days of being in the PICU, Emma, through God’s gracious intervention, has defied expectations. She was transferred today, 1/17/26, to Shirley Ryan, one of the country’s best rehab hospitals, and has been breathing on her own for almost 84 hours—something they didn’t think she’d be able to do. We’ve been carried by the prayers of thousands, and we have tasted and seen that the Lord is good. His fingerprints are all over this journey in more ways than we can count. He has brought Emma further than anyone thought possible, and when medicine reached its limits, we found ourselves firmly resting in His hands. We can’t express the depth of our gratitude for everyone who has walked through this with us. Please keep praying. We’re asking boldly for miraculous healing while also asking Him to strengthen our trust as we submit to His will. Right now, Emma remains unconscious but is showing some responsiveness to stimuli that has slowly improved over this past week. We’re praying for signs of wakefulness and interaction as rehab begins on Monday(1/19/26). Soli Deo gloria. Chris & Taylor
This page will serve as a central location for updates, go fund me, meal train (not active yet per Taylor), and other needs will be requested here as they arise too. Please feel free to leave encouraging messages, prayers, scripture, photos. —— Chris and Taylor are deeply encouraged by the outpouring of love and support from their community. At this time, their greatest need is prayer for complete and miraculous healing for sweet Emma. If you feel led to do more, there is an option to give Visa gift cards, which will help cover meals, groceries, and other needs while Emma is in the hospital. Additionally, a GoFundMe has been set up to assist with medical expenses. We will continue to share updates here periodically and add specific care needs as they arise.
