Supporting Wendy's Fight With Cancer

Peoria, IL

W
Story

So many of you have reached out asking how you can support Wendy during this incredibly challenging and scary chapter. We created this space to share regular updates on her progress and to offer a central place where you can send your well-wishes, prayers, positive energy, and financial donations to ease her burden. Wendy’s Journey: In May, Wendy was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma. Before her diagnosis, she dealt with persistent side pain for several months. While an initial ultrasound didn't reveal the cause, the pain never stopped. Thankfully, Dr. Penn—a physician at the office where Wendy works—strongly urged her to get a MRCP. Valuing Dr. Penn's professional opinion, Wendy agreed to the procedure. Unfortunately, the results revealed a kidney mass on Wendy’s right kidney involving the adrenal gland and the lower lobes of both lungs, and the sartorius muscle at the top of Wendy’s left hip. After processing this devastating news, Wendy immediately jumped into high gear. She quickly scheduled all the necessary medical appointments to confront this aggressive cancer head-on. Where Things Stand Now: True to form, Wendy is tackling this challenge with immense strength and resilience. She is constantly researching, asking questions, and taking a highly proactive role in her medical care. Her positive attitude is nothing short of inspiring as she continues to live her life as fully as possible. However, the financial and logistical toll has become heavy. Last Tuesday, Wendy had to make the incredibly difficult decision to go on short-term disability. As a fiercely independent woman who has worked and supported herself her entire life, stepping away from her job was not easy. Because she works part-time, her time off is entirely unpaid. To make matters worse, she is facing a literal "when it rains, it pours" scenario. Around the time of her diagnosis, her yard had to be dug up to completely replace the main sewer lines into her house. Just a few weeks later, a severe storm caused the tree in her front yard to crash onto her neighbors and her rooftops. In addition to losing 2 family members this week was incredibly hard. How You Can Help: We want to surround Wendy with love and relieve as much financial stress as possible so she can focus entirely on her health and healing. Donate: Financial contributions will directly cover her unpaid time off, ongoing medical treatments, and urgent home repairs. Share Messages: Leave your words of encouragement, prayers, and positive thoughts right here on this page. Spread the Word: Please share this link with others who know and love Wendy. Thank you for your overwhelming kindness, generosity, and support. We will keep you updated right here as Wendy continues her fight.
