All requests are directly from them ❤️ I want to introduce you to an extraordinary young soul named Emmy and share her remarkable journey with you. Emmy's story is one of courage, determination, and the unyielding love of her family. Emmy's life took an unexpected turn when, at just five weeks old, she was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) after suffering a seizure. The challenges she faced were immense from the very beginning. At that point, she was experiencing over 100 subclinical seizures per day, a relentless storm that threatened her well-being. Emmy's parents, driven by an unwavering commitment to provide her with the best possible care, embarked on a journey that led them to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC). Over the course of a year, they faced the agonizing struggle of trying to bring Emmy's seizures under control. Their lives were marked by a relentless back-and-forth between Florida and Cincinnati, searching for answers and hope. As time passed, it became increasingly apparent that Emmy's condition was profoundly complex and unique, even for a child with TSC. In June, they made the courageous decision to come to Cincinnati for phase 1 testing for epilepsy surgery, seeking a glimmer of hope to alleviate her seizures. During this critical phase, they received unexpected news: Emmy's challenges extended far beyond what they had imagined. In addition to TSC and refractory epilepsy, Emmy was also diagnosed with hydrocephalus and polycystic kidney disease. It was a crushing revelation, leaving her parents filled with fear and concern for their beloved daughter. It was clear that Emmy required a level of care and expertise that was simply not available back home in Florida. As they navigated this daunting new reality, the support they had hoped to find back in Florida continued to elude them. Their frustration reached a breaking point when Emmy was hospitalized in Florida, and her neurologist failed to show up despite multiple calls from the hospital. The realization was stark and clear: if they wanted Emmy to have a fighting chance, they had to make a monumental decision. Their long-term plan to move became an urgent two-week plan. With unwavering determination, they worked tirelessly to relocate Emmy to Cincinnati, where they could access the specialized care and support she desperately needed. In the five weeks since their arrival, Emmy has faced the daunting challenge of being hospitalized three times. However, amidst the worry and uncertainty, there is a newfound sense of security and hope. For the first time in their journey, Emmy's family feels safe knowing she is surrounded by a team of doctors who are not only determined to help her thrive, but are genuinely invested in her well-being.
