My name is Herschell Michel, and I never imagined I would find myself in a position where I would have to ask others for help. For more than 40 years, I worked with my hands in the trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. I was always the person who worked, provided, and tried to help others whenever I could. Becoming disabled and unable to work has changed my life in ways I never expected. Over time, my medical expenses and everyday living expenses have simply become overwhelming. I live with multiple serious and chronic medical problems, including coronary artery disease and a history of a heart attack and heart stent, high blood pressure, SVT and episodes of syncope, seizure disorder, peripheral neuropathy, lumbar and cervical spine disease with radiculopathy, severe chronic nerve pain, arthritis, and chronic pancreatitis. My spinal problems have become particularly debilitating, affecting my ability to walk and function normally and requiring ongoing care and evaluation. Because of my health, I have also been required to follow a special heart-healthy diet. Unfortunately, healthier foods can be considerably more expensive, and maintaining the diet I need has become another financial burden. I also have frequent appointments with specialists, many of which require traveling more than 100 miles round trip. The cost of gasoline alone adds up quickly, especially when you are living on a limited disability income. These are trips I cannot simply choose to stop making because they are necessary for my medical care. At the same time, the cost of electricity, groceries, household necessities, and medications continues to rise. Some of the specialty medications and medical expenses I need are not fully covered by Medicaid, leaving me responsible for costs I simply cannot comfortably afford. That is why I decided to start this fundraiser. I am not asking for help because I want anything extravagant. I am asking for help with the necessities that allow me to continue living, eating properly, getting to my doctors, taking the medications I need, and keeping the lights on. Any contribution, no matter how small, can make a genuine difference. I am grateful for cash donations, but there are also other ways someone can help. If you would prefer to donate heart-healthy food, groceries, food-delivery assistance, or gift cards for groceries and gasoline, those are deeply appreciated as well. Most importantly, I want everyone who takes the time to read my story to know how much your kindness means to me and my family. I know there are many people in this world who need help, and I don’t take for granted that someone would choose to help me. Whether you are able to donate $5, provide a meal, give a grocery or gas gift card, share this fundraiser, or simply say a prayer for me, I am sincerely thankful. Your kindness helps take away a little of the financial burden and gives me one less thing to worry about while I concentrate on my health and getting through each day. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your generosity, compassion, prayers, encouragement, and support. God bless you and your family, and thank you for helping me during a time in my life when I truly need it.
Im required a heart health diet because I have a disease that causes my blood to thicken and clot. I only get $1265 SSD so in today’s economy I’m unable to afford everyday necessities to live or hygiene products , groceries and medical supplies
