2 days before Claire's 20 week ultrasound, Joseph suddenly knew they would be having a baby girl named Grace. The day of the ultrasound revealed that their precious baby girl was facing a difficult diagnosis. They came to learn that Grace has an underdeveloped brain, a severe congenital diaphragmatic hernia, incomplete soft palate formation, a coarctation (narrowing) of the aorta, small lungs, and intrauterine growth restriction. These complications are caused by a partial trisomy of chromosome 1. Grace will either require comfort care and hospice at birth or a series of surgeries and prolonged NICU stay. Despite all of this, she is truly a grace: a gift from God. They lean on Jesus and their loving friends and family in this uncertain time. At this time, their greatest needs are prayers and financial support. Please consider donating with a Visa gift card or through Venmo. These donations will help the Schaefers pay for maternity photos, groceries, medical expenses, and all of the unforeseen circumstances they will encounter.
