Story
Twelve years ago, Maitland was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called ulcerative colitis. July 9th, 2024, she fell out of remission. Last week, she was admitted to the hospital. Now, she is preparing for stage one of a three stage surgery on December 2nd at Cleveland Clinic, with one of the best colorectal surgeons in the world. During this surgery her entire large intestine will be removed and her small intestine will create a stoma. “Through all of this, I've been so grateful for my amazing husband and children. Their love and support mean the world to me, but I know this is a difficult time for them too. As I recover, they may need a little extra support. This disease is awful, and it’s hard to put into words how much it has impacted my life, but I’m choosing to focus on gratitude and hope as I face this next chapter.” - Maitland Roberts
