A helping hand for Bob and Carla Heinen

Bob has been in ICU at KU Med for over a month, and he was in both Stormont Vail and St. Francis many times over the past months. He has finally been diagnosed with histoplasmosis. He will be moved to another facility soon. Update from his daughter Brandi on Sunday: Update on my dad. We are waiting for him to be transported to Select Specialty Hopsital by Legends. They had to put a trach in and he’s not showing a lot of progress but he has some stubborn and determined girls that are here to keep the fight up. We are very blessed to have had all the wonderful medical teams at KU Med to find us some answers and start a treatment process. We just wish he would have had this opportunity before it did the damage it did. All of the well wishes and prayers are felt by us all and we appreciate the community of friends and family that have been so gracious and kind. This is a current note that was written by his daughter Brandi: With the infection and swelling going away, it has caused issues with his brain and could result in permanent damage. We have decided to try something unconventional but promising to try and help him recover some of his normal brain function by using neurofeedback. This is not something covered by insurance but could be the difference between him having a chance at life again. He has 30 days in the new rehab hospital to show progress and if none, the next step is hospice. The neurofeedback device is not cheap, and my parents are already feeling the impact of medical bills. So, for my birthday I would like to ask for donations so we can get this (hopefully lifesaving) device for my dad. Donations will help us get this purchased as soon as possible and also to help pay for the monthly fee.
