Becky is a foster parent, and we are expecting Baby Boy in March - scratch that, he decided to join the party early and HE'S HERE. Thank you for your interest in supporting! We have lots of the typical baby gear and specific dietary needs, so the ways you can help might look a little different than a typical baby shower or meal train. Thank you to Brookfield Christian Reformed Church, the church I went to growing up, for COMPLETELY clearing out everything we put on a registry! Cash gifts can be accepted in whichever format you prefer and will directly support 1) a Spanish-speaking doula for Mama L, 2) additional storage for the house to make plenty of room for Baby Boy, and 3) diapers, diapers, and more diapers (oh, and wipes). You can also sign up for our twist on a meal train or help with food prep/cleaning weekly or yard work monthly. Please always feel free to text Becky if you are thinking about another way to support and want to see if it would be helpful.
The meal train is focused on ordering Honduran food to fuel Mama L. This will likely require in person ordering from all across town and driving it over to the house, or ordering your favorite shrimp or chicken fried rice. Consider it an opportunity to explore our local food landscape! Otherwise, we'd love help prepping food and cleaning on Fridays (basically cutting up tons of fruit and then helping clean the kitchen and the rest of the house). You can order for 1 or 2 adults, your choice. Some of Mama L's favorites are: 1. Baleadas sencillas from Norma's 2925 Bienville St (and if you go, please also pick up a bunch of bananas verdes). 2. Pollo con Tajadas from Los Catrachos 3001 Tulane Ave -or- Sabor Catracho 1801 Stumpf Blvd #1 on the West Bank with a drink (Tamarindo or Nance). 3. Tamales from Perez Latin Grocery 9212 W Judge Perez Dr. in Chalmette (Sundays only, available at the register). 4. The taco plate (no pork) from Panchita's 1434 S Carrollton with tamarind juice. 5. Shrimp fried rice or chicken fried rice from anywhere. If you think you know the Honduran food scene pretty well, we welcome new recommendations, too (just no pork).
